2025 Photography Contest Winners

A pair of contentious tree swallows won $50 for Brodie Sennish of Sandusky in the Friends of Old Woman Creek photo contest. He also won an honorable mention.

Lorianne Arword of Berlin Heights won second place and $40 with a photo of a heron amidst flowers.  

Third place went to Robert Myer of Sandusky. He won $30 for a closeup of a water droplets on a jewel weed.

The photos will be displayed at the Old Woman Creek Visitor Center starting on Sat. Sept. 20, the beginning of National Estuaries Week.  In October the photos, including honorable mentions, will be displayed in the lower level of the Huron Public Library.

Contest Judge Lynn Ischay, a retired Plain Dealer photographer and freelancer,  said of the winning entry: Tough Pill to Swallow. “This was a great find. It looks like the upper swallow is giving the lower one what for. The background is clean, there is some action , and the composition is perfect.

The Heron in the Garden, second place, “ This photo is magical. It is soft and subtle with great textures. Beautiful.” she  said.

Ischay said of third place, Morning Dew on Jewelweed, “The water droplets on the jewelweed really make this photo sing. The light was perfect. Good Seeing!”

Two Honorable mentions went to: Rodney Engle of Lorain and Bernie Bong of Huron.  Janet Hannaway of Vermilion, Stephenie Sell, of Mansfield and Jennifer Velasquez of Berlin Heights also won honorable mentions.
